What results are women seeing with retatrutide?

Women lost more weight than men on retatrutide in a phase 2 trial, but you cannot get it by prescription yet.

In a 48-week trial of 338 adults, women on the higher doses lost about 28.5% and 26.6% of body weight on average, compared with about 19.8% and 21.9% for men Phase 2 trial in NEJM. Weight loss had not leveled off at 48 weeks. A larger trial of 2,339 people later averaged about 28.3% at 80 weeks on 12 mg Lilly TRIUMPH-1 topline. Stomach and bowel side effects were common in both trials.

How much weight did women lose?

On the 12 mg weekly dose, people in the 48-week trial lost 24.2% on average. Women lost more than men on the higher doses, and the trial authors wrote that the reason remains undetermined. They listed body composition, fat distribution and hormones as possible factors that need more study Phase 2 trial in NEJM.

Longer treatment showed larger average losses overall. Lilly reported 28.3% average loss at 80 weeks on 12 mg, and 30.3% at 104 weeks in an extension for people with a body mass index of 35 or higher Lilly TRIUMPH-1 topline. Those longer-term numbers are overall averages, not results reported for women alone.

What did treatment feel like?

Participants in the trials most often dealt with nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and constipation. In the 48-week trial these events were dose related, were mostly mild to moderate, and were less frequent with a lower 2 mg starting dose. Heart rate rose with dose, peaked around 24 weeks, then fell. About 8% of participants stopped treatment because of side effects Phase 2 safety data in NEJM.

Later topline reporting showed higher rates with longer treatment. In TRIUMPH-4, nausea occurred in 43%, diarrhea in 33% and vomiting in 21%. People who stopped treatment because of side effects reached 12.2% on 9 mg and 18.2% on 12 mg, compared with 4.0% on placebo, and some stops were attributed to perceived excessive weight loss TRIUMPH-4 safety summary.

Can you get retatrutide now?

Retatrutide remains investigational and unapproved in any country as of 2026. Lilly is expected to file for U.S. approval in late 2026 to early 2027, with several more Phase 3 readouts expected through 2026 trial timeline.
