Pills with NR or NMN reliably raise the NAD number in your blood about two to three times, but that higher number has not led to more energy, clearer thinking or better metabolic labs compared with placebo in the trials we have. Across 12 trials with 513 adults, NMN raised blood NAD but fasting glucose, triglycerides and cholesterol fractions did not differ from control, and the authors warned that benefit claims go beyond what the data show (NMN meta-analysis). In a 10-week trial in 20 older adults with mild memory concerns, NR raised blood NAD+ 2.6 times with no more side effects than placebo, but scores on a standard memory and thinking test stayed flat (MCI NR pilot).

What do IVs and shots demand in time and side effects?

Clients in commercial clinics received 500 mg of IV NAD+ or IV NR on four days in a row. NAD+ infusions averaged 97 minutes because staff slowed the drip when nausea and stomach upset, rapid heartbeat and chest pressure appeared. NR infusions averaged 37 minutes and caused only mild tingling in the tongue, jaw or arm and mild cramping. All symptoms stopped when the drip finished (IV tolerability pilot).
