How soon before sex should I take it?

You inject 1.75 mg under the skin of the abdomen or thigh as needed at least 45 minutes before sex (FDA label). Blood levels reach their high point around 1 hour after the shot (Medscape). The largest rise in blood pressure and dip in heart rate happen between 2 and 4 hours (DailyMed).

You choose your own best timing based on when you feel desire and whether you feel nausea (DailyMed). Nausea, flushing and headache were the most common side effects in the trials (trial report).

How long does one dose last?

The FDA states that the duration of benefit after each dose is unknown and the best window has not been fully characterized (DailyMed). On average, half the drug clears in about 2.7 hours (DailyMed). Blood pressure changes usually fade within 12 hours (DailyMed).

Those numbers track the drug in your blood. They do not prove how long you will feel more desire.

When can I take it again?

You wait at least 24 hours between doses and use no more than 8 doses in a month (FDA label). Few trial participants used more than 8 doses in a month. More frequent use raises the chance of dark patches on the skin and adds more time each month with raised blood pressure (prescribing information).
